The founder, Dr. Steven Kurtz, is an internationally recognized expert in child psychology with specializations in a number of areas, including but not limited to ADHD, oppositional and defiant behavior, anxiety, and educational challenges. He also is the developer of PCIT Adapted for Selective Mutism (PCIT-SM) and the founder of the Selective Mutism Programs at the Child Mind Institute. He created the Brave Buddies group intensive for SM and later launched the Mighty Mouth program in NYC which now serves the needs of children around the globe with selective mutism. Dr. Kurtz is one of only 21 certified Global Trainers in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy(PCIT) – a gold standard treatment for young children with oppositional and defiant behaviors, often co-occurring with other disorders such as ADHD, anxiety, or autism spectrum disorder. Dr. Kurtz provides training at all levels of PCIT - for new therapists, Within Agency Trainers, and for those seeking to become Regional Trainers. He has a long history of involvement with PCIT International having served as Chair of the Continuing Education Task Force and helping PCIT International move forward wtih telehealth during the pandemic.

Sheer Psychology, PLLC is a practice designed around supporting families and children carrying diagnoses of anxiety, mood disorders, oppositional disorders, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorder. Dr. Shira Kafker, the founder of Sheer Psychology, PLLC, specializes in helping families navigate these disorders in order to improve their relationships, reduce anxiety in children, and help children increase attention and manage hyperactivity, improve impulse control, and build social skills. She is a Within-Agency Trainer for Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and provides PCIT to about 95% of her current patients. Dr. Kafker is passionate not only about providing PCIT to the families with whom she works, but also about training newer clinicians in learning and disseminating this gold-standard treatment. In addition to the standard model of PCIT, Dr. Kafker is also certified in PCIT-Toddlers and utilizes the older child adaptation. Outside of PCIT, Dr. Kafker is a certified trainer for PC-CARE, and enjoys teaching professionals about this shorter-term intervention. She is also an adjunct professor at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology in New York and the supervising psychologist at the Quad Manhattan’s summer program for twice exceptional children.

Dr. Tasha M. Brown is a licensed clinical psychologist in New York, parent consultant, and speaker specializing in evidence-based care for children, adolescents, and young adults. She is passionate about helping clients apply treatment skills in their everyday lives and emphasizes strength-based, client-centered approaches to support functioning at home, school, and in the community. Dr. Brown earned her BS in Child and Family Studies and Psychology from Syracuse University and her MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from DePaul University. She completed her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. In 2019, she founded Tasha M. Brown, Ph.D. Psychological Services, PLLC. In addition to her private practice, Dr. Brown is a clinical psychologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology (in Psychiatry) at Columbia University Medical Center.
